Emma's World

Just a look at my crazy, ex-pat life...

Speckles

We got Speckles from a foster home for cats on April 8th, 2008. She was 4 months old. Her previous owners had abused her (we think they threw her and stuff) and took her from her mother when she was still too young. That being said, she was a little more than scared when we met her. She just cowered in the corner of her ginormous cage and meowed sweetly.

We took her home that night. She stayed in the bathroom and we almost immediately found out that she was more playful than it seemed. She opened the drawers in front of the bathroom door and locked us out! After a few days, we let her come out and roam the house. When I had my piano lesson later, we put her in a dog pen to keep an eye on her. She jumped out! The fence was at least 4 feet high! My piano teacher loved her. So did I.

When we moved to China, the cats were coming after we arrived. However, nobody could catch Speckles. She hid in a hole in the ceiling of our old house. When our housesitters fixed that, she hid under the oven. That was blocked, and she went up the chimney. I was like, "Cat, if you would just cooperate, you would've been here weeks ago!" I was so worried. Finally, someone got a raccoon trap (yes, a raccoon trap) and she was caught! She arrived at the house and hid in the bathroom. When I got home from school, I heard her upstairs meowing. The minute she saw me and my sister, she marched out of the bathroom and began lounging on the stairs, like she owned the place.
